Overview Microsoft is one of the world's largest technology companies, investing heavily in data centers, cloud infrastructure, office facilities, and computer equipment to support products such as Azure, Microsoft 365, and Windows. These investments, along with its significant intangible assets, make depreciation and amortization important components of the company's financial model. In this advanced practice, you will build a real-world PP&E and Intangible Assets schedule by forecasting CapEx by asset category, constructing a depreciation waterfall schedule based on each asset's useful life, and projecting amortization of intangible assets. You will then use these schedules to calculate Ending Net PP&E, Ending Intangible Assets, and total D&A, and link the results to the three financial statements. Learning Goals Forecast CapEx by asset category using revenue-based operating assumptions. Build a depreciation waterfall schedule that reflects different useful lives and the assumption that new CapEx begins depreciating in the year after it is placed in service. Build an Intangible Assets Amortization Schedule to project amortization and Ending Intangible Assets. Apply the PP&E roll-forward to calculate Ending Net PP&E from beginning PP&E, projected CapEx, and depreciation. Calculate total D&A by combining depreciation and amortization. Connect the completed schedules to the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement.
